STORM DEBRIS UPDATE
The Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is on schedule with normal garbage, yard trimmings and heavy trash collection operations. The Curbside Recycling crews are assisting the Yard Trimmings crews with vegetative storm debris collection and, therefore, will not be collecting the recyclable materials from the green bins. On Wednesday, September 17th, SWMD will be collecting heavy trash for customers whose regularly scheduled pickup is every 3rd Wednesday. We will continue heavy trash collection according to the regular schedule.
ALERT: PLEASE DO NOT BURN DEBRIS AND TRASH!!! PLEASE DO NOT PLACE DEBRIS IN DITCHES OR IN STORM SEWERS!!!
STORM DEBRIS DROP-OFF LOCATIONS
Beginning today, SWMD will open its neighborhood depositories 7 days a week to accommodate small amounts of storm debris from Houston residents. One pickup truck load or less will be accepted. Hours of operations will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Locations are:
· NORTHEAST AREA 5565 Kirkpatrick 713-675-3208 (Key Map 455N),

· SOUTHEAST AREA 2240 Central St. 713-837-0311 (Key Map 535C)

HOW TO PLACE YOUR DEBRIS FOR COLLECTION
· Residents should place hurricane-related debris along the side of the public right-of-way.
· When setting out debris please make reasonable attempts to not obstruct sidewalks or traffic as they may pose a threat to public health and safety. BE SURE NOT TO PLACE IN THE STORM SEWERS OR DITCHES!

· Bag leaves and light yard waste and stack in bags at the curb.
· Trees and branches should be cut in approx. 8-12 foot lengths and stacked in large piles as neatly as possible along the right-of-way.
· Be cautious not to obstruct mailboxes, utility access points such as electric and water meters or fire hydrants as these could be damaged by heavy equipment during loading.
· Please do not mix household garbage, treated wood (such as fences), tires, or roof shingles with the vegetative debris.
· Do not mix hazardous material, such as paint cans, aerosol sprays, batteries, or appliances with vegetative debris.
· Cut up wood if possible and stack at the curb.
